Thanks for joining IK

[edit source]

Thanks for joining the Iqualik Wikipedia! I just now see you left a welcome message on my talk page. Anyway, do you have any ideas of how we can promote these projects? I've tried contacting the Alaskan government officials, they didn't respond to requests for information on who could help. I suspect the Nunavut government would be more receptive, if you'd consider approaching them via email. I'd like to help in any way I can. -- Zanimum 19:26, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes. Both projects need some impulse... And additionally there is a Greenlandic WP (http://kl.wikipedia.org/) and a Greenlandic Wiktionary... The articles here are mostly just dictionary entries. Very bad... But anyway, yes, I'll try to find a mail address of one who could help from the Nunavut Government. (Unfortunately I don't speak a single word of Inuktitut, but I would be glad to help people with the wiki syntax and so on.) Greetings, --Thogo (Talk) 20:07, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Well, for the next few years at least, the Nunavut's government still operates primarily in the English language. -- Zanimum 16:31, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Bad, very bad. They'd better use their own language before it dies out... Btw., I wrote an email to the Nunavut government, but I didn't get an answer yet. --Thogo (Talk) 13:58, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Moin Thogo, ein neuer Benutzer hat einen Kommentar auf meiner Diskussionsseite hinterlassen in dem er einige Übersetzungen für das Navigationsmenü gibt (siehe dort). Du kannst die als Admin einfach durchführen. Steinbach 13:06, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

translations

[edit source]

wow thank you so much for putting in the inuktitut on the navigation bar so fast, i couldnt believe it or not all of a sudden!! i have added more that needs to be switched over at User talk:Steinbach, there a better place to type that information to at? also i tried to write in both syllabics and latin on the article for snowmobile but it was very hard and annoying, since the syllabics have exact corresponding latin/roman letters could someone create a translation thing for that like in other wikipedias? i think chinese you can switch from classical to modern standard to traditional chinese charicters even pinyin by clicking a button. maybe we can have that too, maybe a button that lets you read in syllabics, a button for in latin, maybe one for both for people who know both or for learners or for people that the two people know differant one but so both can still enjoy at same time? ᓴᐃᒧ saimu - peace be with you.Qrc2006 18:12, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Oh, yes. I know that the Chinese have such a feature... I will look, how that works. Probably it is not as easy as it seems... --Thogo (Talk) 18:16, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

you are right, look at page for irak, i thik this is the best way to go foward, maybe the navigation translation i gave you i should make them in both forms too?

Hm, it could help people who are not familiar with the script. Can you please add the transcriptions to the list on Steinbach's talk page? Maybe it's the best solution to include both. --Thogo (Talk) 23:43, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Kleine Diskussion mit User:Qrc2006

[edit source]

Hi Thomas,

kannst Du Dir mal die Diskussion zwischen mir und unserem einzigen Inuktitut-Sprecher zu Lemmata etc. anschauen und ggf. Deinen Senf dazu beisteuern?

--Thogo (Talk) 02:52, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

convention? do you mean we are going to have a gathering about the names of the articles?

No gathering, I mean that it is a good solution for a language that has two different scripts and I think we should generalize that (to the other existing articles and pages). The more native script should be first (which is the syllabics, I think), thus exactly what you did. :o) Greetings, --Thogo (Talk) 23:52, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

well neither is native, so neither can be more native. actually the roman letters were adapted by natives while the syllabics were created by a european missionary so ironic the latin letters is <<More>> native. but yes it should be in that direct since, syllabics is most commonly used. so great. and youre sure the slash/ is not a problem.

I think it's not a problem, if there exist redirects from both the pure syllabic and the pure roman letter writings. --Thogo (Talk) 15:44, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Oh yes. That's what I wanted to ask you. :o) Thank you. I made a template, just put it on user pages by using {{subst:ai}} without any signature (it's already included in the template). --Thogo (Talk) 17:20, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

why does it come with the image of the alphabet? maybe add a link to the UNICODE so they might be able to cut and paste?

I thought, it might be a good idea to give that chart of characters to new users. Yes, I can add a link to where to download the script. --Thogo (Talk) 02:11, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

no im affraid not, history happens to be a long word, like antidisestablishmentarianism or supercalafragilisticexbealadocious, is there a way to have an abbreviation and when you hover over it the whole word appears, or have it in syllabics but in roman when hovered? maybe it can go on a second line? ill try to find a synonym, but this is the correctprescise morst common word

vandalism

[edit source]

some one has been vandalism parts of the wikinuk! with hateful insults of homofobia, the article for kiss showed a beautiful picture of a mural of two women kissing, they werent even neccisarily lesbians or not, just a friendly kiss and embrace, and they put an ugly picture with a boy and girl kissing, that doesnt seem encyclopedic, more like a myspace cell phone picrture, and says it was removing "decadant lifestyle pornograpghy" also someone changed the picture of the sex table on the main page, a picture of fellatio with nothing, saying it was illegal, i told them wikipedia was not censored and if its illegal in their jurisdiction tough, bcause this sis on americanservers, plus they cant determine whats ok, it was for educational, but alas i chose an even better picture, a french painting from the 1500s from Mayflower/Commons great tool for replacement and yet still again they changed kiss article. how can someone be blocked?

I know youre gone for the moment but maybe youll check somewhere elese

I am being harrased on the Inuktitut wikipedia and there is a homophobic vandal insulting me see him here

did i unblock someone? oops. by the way what happened to the old main page? it was just gone one day, the traslations of the various kanguages are kinda important i think. i also was wondering who moved the other category to the top of the page? is the main page a template? somehow it is the {{ai}}template i think, either way we need a new ai templateQrc2006 21:56, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
The main page is not a template, it is just a normal article. I look what happened there... --Thogo (Talk) 22:42, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
So, I think I repaired it. --Thogo (Talk) 23:03, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Inuktitut

[edit source]

Hi Thogo. Some questions:

  • I am looking for more translators for Inuktitut to come to Betawiki. You seem to be active here, but unfortunately your knowlegde isn't that good. Though, even if you translate a few words, it would be good. Language codes are 'ike-latn' for the Latin variant and 'ike-cans' for the other script.
  • I want to help cleaning up the MediaWiki namespace and set up a conversion script for this language, so that we eventually have something like on the Serbian wikipedia. You seem to be the most active here, so do you want to delete the MediaWiki namespace? Otherwise, I can request sysop access for doing this. Cleaning up means deleting most system messages so it uses the default messages in Inuktitut syllabics. We on betawiki imported most messages and splitted them up into the two different scripts. "iu" falls back to "ike-cans" and you can select "ike-latn" in your preferences.
  • Of course I need the font for this, so i'm trying to download it, but it does not work. Could you give some more information, please?

You can answer here, or on my talk page. Thank you, SPQRobin 14:37, 3 ᔭᓐᓄᐊᓕ/januari 2008 (UTC)

My knowledge is zero, so I can't translate anything. (I'm glad that I can read most of the signs meanwhile and know some parts of the grammar, but that's not even iu-0.1. ;o) I was just the first who cleaned up this wiki from spam and got sysop access by the last active bureaucrat when he left the project. If you have pages to delete please let me know, and I will do it. The font should work, I downloaded it some time ago, but I've heard of other users who did recently. Maybe the server is down at the moment. If you give me your mail address I can send you the font files per mail if you want. --Thogo (ᐊᓪᓚᖁᑎᒃᑲ) 17:59, 3 ᔭᓐᓄᐊᓕ/januari 2008 (UTC)
I'd like to delete all MediaWiki: pages listed on Special:Allmessages which have a default message in the Inuktitut syllabics (=red ones). Now the interface is a mess, and as I explained, I added a language file so that there are default messages in Inuktitut syllabics. If those pages are deleted, the messages in Inuktitut syllabics will be visible. For those who want to see the Latin script instead of the Inuktitut syllabics. And my e-mail adress is "robin_1273(at)hotmail.com". SPQRobin 16:52, 4 ᔭᓐᓄᐊᓕ/januari 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Translations of the interface should only be done on http://translatewiki.net/wiki/. You can create an account there and ask User:Siebrand or another bureaucrat for translator status. Then you can translate all these messages directly. --Thogo (ᐊᓪᓚᖁᑎᒃᑲ) 12:25, 8 ᔪᓂ 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And do you know any other Inuktitut-editors? - hu:User:Eino81

Unfortunately not. There are only anonymous editors who drop by from time to time, but there is no active community here. User:Takutsugusuppuquiki was the only active one, but didn't edit since June. Maybe drop him a note as well. (Or learn Inuktitut quickly and contribute yourself. ;) ) --Thogo (ᐊᓪᓚᖁᑎᒃᑲ) 15:12, 6 ᓄᕕᒻᐳᕆ 2008 (UTC)[reply]
