[ᓱᖁᓯᖅᐹ ᐃᓚ] connectivity project

Hallo, my name is Anastasiya Lvova, I'm "duty" in Connectivity project. The essence of the "Connectivity" project is to study and enhance the coherence of Wikipedia, or, in other words, to improve hypertext navigation between articles. The project deals with deadends, isolated articles, non-categorized articles, transitivity of the category tree, etc.

We want to work with your language version, but we need configured MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage for it (with direct links to template namespace pages, for example, ru:MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage/de:MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage/fr:MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage). Is it possible to set it up for our usage?

thanks in advance, Lvova 18:49, 12 ᔪᓂ 2010 (UTC)

[ᓱᖁᓯᖅᐹ ᐃᓚ] iu.wikipedia

Hi Eequor,

Doing cleanup activities on the Inuktitut Wikipedia is ultimately a good thing, but I don't think it's constructive to post large hunks of text in English as new articles - new articles should be reserved for fluent speakers, or at least should be attempts at good Inuktitut with no English.

--Node 04:31, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Yes, I know. It's at least some sort of starting point. My feeling is that English should be okay for essential articles, if nothing else is available. It's common among the Inuit, and unfortunately it's becoming more common. So at least there's familiarity.
On the other hand, certainly no article titles should be in English, and probably should be in ᑎᑎᕋᐅᓯᖅ ᓄᑖᖅ, with inuujingajut only for redirects. Snail and Postal will both have to go.
I'm hoping the two Canadians who have visited might be more than occasional visitors. Somebody is more familiar with Inuktitut than I am; the main page had a few words already. History and music, if I recall correctly.
In any event, somebody ought to appreciate the irony in the decay from "default" English to Inuktitut. ^_^ --ᐃᖁᐆᕐ 05:10, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[ᓱᖁᓯᖅᐹ ᐃᓚ] Stub pages

Since the odds are good that we've got at least some Inuktitut vocabulary wrong, I'm putting up stubs with approximate English so that if we ever get actual Inuktitut speakers here, they'll at least be able to see what we were trying to do.

Also, there is now a text that appears when you add {{stub}} to a page. My first attempt at Inuktitut composition. What the hell.

Also, I propose as standard practice to put ICI/Nunavut Roman spellings at the top of each page with a name in syllabics. ᑏᑎᕉ 09:23, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[ᓱᖁᓯᖅᐹ ᐃᓚ] High Speed Internet comes to Nunavut

We may have company soon. Nunanet is planning on offering high-speed access in Iqaluit before X-mas [1] and in 25 other Nunavut communities by March. [2] And the Kativik Regional Government is supposed to have high-speed up and running in Nunavik as of last month. [3] Both are at C$60 per month, which means that all schools will have it and wealthier Inuit will be able to afford it.

Good. This will make it a lot easier to bring Inuktitut speakers here. ᑏᑎᕉ 11:18, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[ᓱᖁᓯᖅᐹ ᐃᓚ] Template:Nunavut qaliujaaq

Eequor, can you remove Template:Nunavut qaliujaaq? It was an experiment that didn't work.

I've started soliciting entries from people who have posted informational materials on the web. So far, no answers. In the mean time, look at the infobox at ᑎᑎᕋᐅᔭᖅ. I think this might be a good idea for an Inuktitut Wikipedia because of the multiplicity of standard spellings and the nature of Inuktitut lexicology. A lot of Inuit will know the English work but have never heard an Inuktitut word for some of these things.

[ᓱᖁᓯᖅᐹ ᐃᓚ] Bot policy

Hello. To facilitate steward granting of bot access, I'd like to implement the standard bot policy on this wiki. This will involve creating a redirect to this page from Wikipedia:Bot policy, and adding a line at the top noting that it is used here. In particular, this policy allows automatic acceptance of known interlanguage linking bots, which form the vast majority of such requests.

Please read the text at m:Bot policy before commenting. If you object, please say so; it will be implemented in one week if there is no objection, since it is particularly written to streamline bot requests on wikis with little or no community interested in bot access requests. [ᓱᖁᓯᖅᐹ ᐃᓚ] Election Notice, Please Translate

The 2008 Board election committee announces the 2008 election process. Wikimedians will have the opportunity to elect one candidate from the Wikimedia community to serve as a representative on the Board of Trustees. The successful candidate will serve a one-year term, ending in July 2009.

Candidates may nominate themselves for election between May 8 and May 22, and the voting will occur between 1 June and 21 June. For more information on the voting and candidate requirements, see <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2008>.

The voting system to be used in this election has not yet been confirmed, however voting will be by secret ballot, and confidentiality will be strictly maintained.

Votes will again be cast and counted on a server owned by an independent, neutral third party, Software in the Public Interest (SPI). SPI will hold cryptographic keys and be responsible for tallying the votes and providing final vote counts to the Election Committee. SPI provided excellent help during the 2007 elections.

Further information can be found at <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2008/en>. Questions may be directed to the Election Committee at <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Board_elections/2008/en>. If you are interested in translating official election pages into your own language, please see <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2008/Translation>.

[ᓱᖁᓯᖅᐹ ᐃᓚ] 2010 Fundraising Is Almost Here

Wikimedia Foundation RGB logo with text.svg

Hello Wikipedians, my name is Kelly and I am working for the Wikimedia Foundation during the 2010 Fundraiser. My job is to be the liaison between the Inuktitut community and the Foundation. This year's fundraiser is intended to be a collaborative and global effort; we recognize that banner messages which may perform well in the United States don't necessarily translate well, or appeal to international audiences.

I'm contacting you as I am currently looking for translators who are willing to contribute to this project by helping translate and localize messages into Inuktitut and suggesting messages that would appeal to Inuktitut readers on the Fundraising Meta Page. We've started the setup on meta for both banner submission, statistical analysis, and grouping volunteers together.
Use the talk pages on meta, talk to your local communities, talk to others, talk to us, and add your feedback to the proposed messages as well! I look forward to working with you during this year's fundraiser. If someone could translate this message I would really appreciate it so that everyone is able to understand our goals and contribute to this year's campaign. Thanks!Klyman 20:18, 20 ᐅᒃᑐᐳᕆ 2010 (UTC)

[ᓱᖁᓯᖅᐹ ᐃᓚ] An urgent translation request

Wikimedia Foundation RGB logo with text.svg

Greetings :) As you may have noticed, the banners are up and we are in the final stages of testing before the official kickoff on Monday the 15th for this year's WMF fundraiser. We are in a bit of a time crunch to get the ᐃᓄᒃᑎᑐᑦ/inuktitut translations in before the Fundraiser launch on Monday. We really don't want to have English pages on the ᐃᓄᒃᑎᑐᑦ/inuktitut projects. This is a calll to to community to get involved, help translate and recruit translators to get all the fundraising materials completed. Here is the translation hub with the Jimmy Appeal, Core Messages, FAQ and Benefactors pages that need to be completed Translations. Once these are completed, we can build the new landing pages and localize the fundraiser! Thanks so much, let me know if there are any questions!Klyman 18:54, 13 ᓄᕕᒻᐳᕆ 2010 (UTC)

[ᓱᖁᓯᖅᐹ ᐃᓚ] Announcing Wikipedia 1.19 beta

Wikimedia Foundation is getting ready to push out 1.19 to all the WMF-hosted wikis. As we finish wrapping up our code review, you can test the new version right now on beta.wmflabs.org. For more information, please read the release notes or the start of the final announcement.

The following are the areas that you will probably be most interested in:

  • Faster loading of javascript files makes dependency tracking more important.
  • New common*.css files usable by skins instead of having to copy piles of generic styles from MonoBook or Vector's css.
  • The default user signature now contains a talk link in addition to the user link.
  • Searching blocked usernames in block log is now clearer.
  • Better timezone recognition in user preferences.
  • Improved diff readability for colorblind people.
  • The interwiki links table can now be accessed also when the interwiki cache is used (used in the API and the Interwiki extension).
  • More gender support (for instance in logs and user lists).
  • Language converter improved, e.g. it now works depending on the page content language.
  • Time and number-formatting magic words also now depend on the page content language.
  • Bidirectional support further improved after 1.18.

Report any problems on the labs beta wiki and we'll work to address them before they software is released to the production wikis.

Note that this cluster does have SUL but it is not integrated with SUL in production, so you'll need to create another account. You should avoid using the same password as you use here. — Global message delivery 00:15, 15 ᔭᓐᓄᐊᓕ 2012 (UTC)

[ᓱᖁᓯᖅᐹ ᐃᓚ] MediaWiki 1.19

(Apologies if this message isn't in your language.) The Wikimedia Foundation is planning to upgrade MediaWiki (the software powering this wiki) to its latest version this month. You can help to test it before it is enabled, to avoid disruption and breakage. More information is available in the full announcement. Thank you for your understanding.
